One can join this university without any worries about the life, teaching method and so on. Now Queens is one among the top ten universities in UK and all the departments are rated very high.
As a part of my admission process to higher studies in UK, I had to take IELTS. I had done all the preparation myself with some text books and online materials. I find the test pretty easy to get a good score. The Global Educational Consultants helped me get through the admission process and also in getting the visa application filed. The visa interview is not a big hassle if the documentation is complete. Its preferable to book the flight tickets little earlier as it gives you better options to get low cost as well as good timing. I flew with Jet airways and they have some amazing gift packages for students and I suggest that to students. There was of course a student discount and other gifts as I already mentioned. I travelled from Trivandrum to London Heathrow and from London to Belfast. From London I travelled with BMI. The airport is just 5 minutes travel by a car and it will cost only 5 pounds. There is no such restrictions for the baggage and I was able to bring much home-made foods to UK, like pickles and other storable items. I havent faced any immigration issues and it took only just 2 minutes for all the formalities. Actually I came to UK just a week before my classes started so I couldnt get the university service to get there. But they have given all the instructions on how to reach there safely, through their website and other booklets.
Queens is offering various studentships for MSc as well as research students. Myself I have got the international masters student scholarships.
I am very much happy with the course structure as well as with the teaching methods. The course is oriented in such a way to give the students to get a good insight about the challenges one has to face in an industry. The lecture notes, tutorials and discussions are helping me a lot and I am happy to score very high in my first semester. The professors are very much willing to spend time for students. At Queens we have a full fledged library, separate for science, arts and other streams. Now even a bigger one is being built up that will be active from this September. Even more are there that Queens assists students, to attend conferences, meetings etc in other countries related to their study area.
Myself, with three other friends have rented a house near my university, as its more cheaper compared to the university accommodation as well as we dont have any restrictions in bringing up our friends at any time. And for sports, there is a special physical education centre and the students can have personal advisers. Students can actively participate in all sports and all centers are open till midnight. Getting a part-time job is not that easy as we have to first get adjusted to the European culture and language. But I really think after some 3 months one can for sure get a job. Call centre jobs are a lot here. But I preferred to get along with my studies rather than doing a job, as studies is my main goal. After coming here I have had the chances to visit various European countries for some training purposes and I can say from my heart that I never felt the friendliness that I have got from Belfast in any of those cities. People here are so helping and will pass through with a smiling face. I never felt that I am far away from my native and also I havent faced any sort of racial discrimination here, as said by some students from other parts of UK. The night life is vibrant here and in short one can say Belfast is a student city. The city has all its vibrancy with calmness. Here we have a South Asian Students Society that brings together all the students from south Asia. We conduct get together, cultural events, tours and so on. I am happy that I am working as the Public Relations Officer of the society and in touch with all the south Asian students here.
The University has a students guidance centre that advices student on personal placements activities. There are many placement events throughout the year for the undergraduates as well as post graduate students. International students have to struggle a little to get a good job. But for sure can get one if able to score better among the other students as well as attending the free training sessions conducted by the university will help a lot to get through a good job. Students really have to knock on 100 doors if they have to get one opened. So it all depends on the student.
