My tips to new students: Talk to anyone and everyone (within reason!), as you're all in the same boat - you might never see them again, or they might be your future partner, best mate or study- buddy! Just enjoy it! The three words to describe the University of Aberdeen are Friendly, fun and fantastic!
Geography was my favourite subject at school. I knew I enjoyed finding out about other countries and cultures, so originally applied for Geography and Anthropology, but from speaking to new friends I discovered International Relations, changed courses and never looked back! Aberdeen gave me the freedom to experiment with different courses and find out what really interested me - International Relations combines perfectly with Geography and I've really enjoyed my studies.
Location-wise, Aberdeen was perfect for me, allowing me to move away from my parents in the very south of Scotland, but still easy enough to visit them by train, and see the rest of the world too! I knew I was interested in doing Geography, but liked the variety of other courses available at Aberdeen. Aberdeen's was the first university Open Day I came to, and it just had a lovely atmosphere. I liked the fact that the majority of the Uni was on a beautiful campus, and it seems separate to the hustle and bustle of the city centre, even though it's only a few minutes away. Everyone was really friendly and I heard about the social aspects from other students, who all seemed to have loads to do - I wondered how they got any work done! Four years later, I still wonder, but we manage!
